WINE SCHOOL: HOMETOWN HERO...The Wines of Joseph-Jibril

"We are joseph-jibril and we love wine. We believe that the craft of winemaking is inherently personal, so we put our middle names on it (because Bobby Jaam Wines doesn’t have the same ring to it). Our journey started with conversations in a parking lot and became a reality with lots of help and hard work. After years in the cellar making wines for others, we decided to take a leap of faith and start our own project.

Winemaking is an encapsulation of a moment in time. Its energy changes throughout its lifecycle, and perception of it is subjective. We make crushable wine for all to enjoy. We want our wines to be both fun and serious. . . approachable and interesting, delicious and thought-provoking, all while being clean and sound. We make minimal intervention wine and focus on providing the necessary conditions for the optimal expression of the vineyard’s fruit. Sometimes the result is opulent, silky, and coating. Other times it is light, floral, and expressive — we never want to stand in the way of that self-actualization. We recognize the hard work involved in all facets of wine production. It is never just the winemakers–we have support from vineyard workers, cellar interns, truck drivers, growers, friends and family who all work insanely hard to help us encapsulate this ‘moment in time’. We hope you enjoy our wine — pour that first glass extra tall in honor of all those who made it possible."

After Wine School, mingle with Jaam and Bobby downstairs at Rebel Rebel for a board takeover and hang! Ask them all of your burning questions!

WINE SCHOOL: Mythbusting Sweet Wine

We will break down exactly what "sweet" wine is. I promise you won’t be drinking three tastes of dessert wine BUT we will be exploring what we mean when we say we “don’t want a sweet wine.” There is so much to be discovered in the wine world when we understand what we mean by “sweet” (think more juicy & fruity rather than candy).

As usual, we'll taste through 3 wines together, and there will be ample time for Q+A.

WINE SCHOOL: TUSCANY'S FUTURE w/ WINEMAKER DARIO MARINARI

It's an old school Sunday Wine 101 diving into the future of Tuscany—with one if its leading natural winemakers.

Join us for an hour of tasting and conversation with Dario Marinari of Agricola i Forestieri, a small but forward-thinking estate that's part of the redefinition of Tuscan winemaking.

While Agricola i Forestieri is a young estate, Marinari himself brings a wealth of experience to his craft, having cut his teeth working in vineyards and wineries in both Italy and France. He was an apprentice to the folk-legend Stefano Amerighi in Cortona, and gained experience in biodynamic agriculture and natural winemaking at Agricola Le Nuvole, Mas de Daumas Gassac before landing at one of our favorite projects—Ampeleia.

This promises to be an insightful and exciting afternoon!

Tickets to this one-hour class include 4 tasting pours of Forestieri wines. Ticketholders are welcome to remain after class to ask questions with Dario, who plans to hang with us until 2!

WINE SCHOOL: unruly. a sensory series.

WINE SCHOOL: unruly. a sensory series.

the Dear Annie wine classes taught by Lauren Friel are popping up at Wild Child!

PALATE PROGRESS, vol. 2

From Lauren:

Of the hundreds of classes I've taught, the most-listed reason folks lack confidence when it comes to wine is their perceived inability to identify what they're tasting. This stems from an unfortunate (and inaccurate!) assumption that there's a right and wrong answer when it comes to tasting notes—an old-school and problematic way of thinking that only succeeds in keeping wine mostly in the hands of white western European descendents, and a big part of what I work to break down in every class I teach.

PALATE PROGRESS is a new series I'm developing to get us—and our taste buds—out of our comfort zones and into a full, experiential appreciation of wine. Each class is designed to take us deeper into our sense memory, expanding and exploring our understanding of our own palates. We'll go on forest walks, visit florists, and invite new ways of thinking to help us dive deep into the science and lore of scent, enabling us to develop our own dynamic, inclusive vocabulary.

The class will go like this:

We'll hang out for an hour, during which time attendees will be blindfolded. During the hour, you'll be presented with an array of real-life versions of traditional wine tasting notes. There's no prize for guessing correctly, but attendees are often surprised by what sticks out and what gets lost. We'll begin to ask the question: When we say a wine smells like currants, are we being truthful? Where does language fail us here, and what might a more successful vocabulary look like? How can we begin to develop this together? We'll then taste through 3 wines together in an effort to utilize the new tools we've discovered.

Class includes 3 tasting pours and many smells, and ample time for Q+A.

DATE: Thursday 3/28/24

TIME: 6-7pm

TICKETS INCLUDE: one-hour class + 3 tasting pours

Embracing Pleasure: A Queer Self Love Workshop

Embracing Pleasure: A Queer Self Love Workshop

LOVE ISN'T JUST FOR LOVERS 💕 it’s a valentines/galentines/palentines collab with Pleasure Pie to help you celebrate the season of love and YOURSELF

We'll be pouring wine and our friends at Pleasure Pie will be leading the workshop!

About the Workshop:

Embracing Pleasure: A Queer Self Love Workshop

Pleasure is important. It connects us to ourselves and the world around us, nourishes our mental health, and makes us feel alive! But if you look to mainstream society as your guide, you might think that pleasure is reserved for a very narrow set of people—cis, straight, white, thin, young, non-disabled folks (and above all, cis het men). Homophobia, transphobia, racism, fatphobia, ableism, etc. tell us that pleasure is not for us.

In this workshop, we'll explore how we can practice accepting—and even loving—our queer selves. Then we'll delve into how we can use this self-acceptance and self-love as a foundation for getting in touch with our pleasure. We'll ask: "What would it look like if I threw out everything I've been told that pleasure is supposed to look like, and embraced my most authentic pleasure?"This workshop is a rallying cry to queer folks. We deserve to feel good—and we're not going to stop until we overcome every obstacle in the way of our collective queer joy and pleasure!

About Pleasure Pie:

Pleasure Pie is a small activist organization based in Boston, MA. Our efforts center around combating sexual shame, promoting consent education, and supporting folks who are working toward intersectional liberation. We make alternative sexuality education materials (including zines, illustrations, and publications) and experiences (events, conversations, and workshops).

Note: This workshop will be held indoors at Wild Child and takes a sex-positive, asexual-inclusive perspective on pleasure. Tickets include admission to the workshop. Wine will be available for purchase by the glass.

About "Kings of Their Own Ocean": This is a tale of human obsession, one intrepid tuna, the dedicated fisherman who caught and set her free, the promises and limits of ocean science, and the big truth of how our insatiable appetite for bluefin transformed a cottage industry into a global dilemma.

Kings of Their Own Ocean is an urgent investigation that combines science, business, crime, and environmental justice. As Pinchin writes, “as a global community, we are collectively only ever a few terrible choices away from wiping out any ocean species.” Through her exclusive access and interdisciplinary, mesmerizing lens, readers will join her on boats and docks as she visits tuna hot spots and scientists from Portugal to Japan, New Jersey to Nova Scotia, and glimpse, as the author does, rays of dazzling hope for the future of our oceans.

About Egg: A Dozen Ovatures: An unconventional history of the world’s largest cellular workhorse, from chickens to penguins, from art to crime, and more.

The egg is a paradox—both alive and not alive—and a symbol as old as culture itself. In this wide-ranging and delightful journey through its natural and cultural history, Lizzie Stark explores the egg’s deep meanings, innumerable uses, and metabolic importance through a dozen dazzling specimens.
